1) Book Airbnb accommodation
Staying in Airbnb can be so much cheaper than staying in hotel. You can also cook in some Airbnb accommodation which can help you save more if dining out in the country is expensive.
You can choose to have the whole flat for yourself or just one room in the flat. If you have many travelling partner, having the whole flat for yourself can be so much cheaper.
2) Buy Paris metro ticket at Carousell first
Usually the price of metro ticket at Carousell will be cheaper than the actual price you buy in Paris. You need 1 ticket for 1 person for 1 entry. The ticket do not have expiry date. Click here to view one of the listing I found in Carousell.
In the case the unused ticket couldn't work, you can exchange the ticket for a new ticket at the counter.
3) Buy Europe 4G sim card in Singapore
After comparing many retailer, this online retailer sells the cheapest sim card.
This retailer has online shops in Carousell and shoppee. Choose the platform that you prefer.
4) Bring Instant Noodle
Want to save money and make sure you eat something nice overseas? Bring your favourite instant noodle!
I know it takes up spaces in the luggage, but if you planning to travel to Europe for more than 10 days, you wouldn't regret bringing instant noodle.
This is especially so if you want to save money on food.
5) Download offline game like Twenty
Travelling to tourist spot require you to wait, wait and wait. So to pass time, and save data, download offline game!
Twenty is one of the game that you can play by yourself or play with another person. It is not as easy as it look like. It can be addictive trying to beat your own score.
Try out the online version here.
6) Use Citymapper
Citymapper was highly recommended when I was doing research about my trip to Europe.
This app is like a public transport journey planner, where you can save the route and transport you plan to use. This way you can plan it when you have WiFi, and use it offline, saving some data.
However, do note that this app does not work for all country.
7) Visit the museums on First Sunday of the month
I highly recommend you to visit the museums in Florence on 1st Sunday of the month. This is because that there are many museums in Florence and if you just plan to take picture of some famous artifacts, Florence is the place.
Do note that the Accademia Gallery (where you can see the statue of david) is actually quite small. So if you want to save on the ticket money, plan to visit Florence on 1st Sunday.
8) Bring minimum clothing for cold weather
The weather in London is cold enough that you need a jacket but at other places in Europe, a scarf is more than enough.
So if you are travelling to London and other place in Europe, don't clutter your luggage with winter wear!
9) Plan to walk
Don't be afraid when you see some distance between tourist attraction. The weather in Europe is comfortable enough and the views are different enough for you to walk without feeling bored.
However, don't plan to bring your luggage or trolley around, the ground is usually not even enough for you to pull it along comfortably.
10) Check the changes you received
Many times when we received changes from the cashier, we realised they gave us the wrong amount. So do spend the time to double check!
